This is no laughing matter! Join Exhumed and Philadelphia Film Society as we unleash “”Mischievous Maniacs,”” an all-day slasher movie marathon centered around sinister pranks. See four fright flick favorites from the 1970s and 1980s where the killer isn’t pulling your leg–he’s hacking it off!

APRIL FOOL’S DAY (with Actress Deborah Foreman in person!)

FRED WALTON | USA | 1986 | 89 MIN | 35MM

Prolific producer Frank Mancuso, Jr. had a hand in guiding the first few “Friday the 13th” sequels after the departure of creator Sean S. Cunningham. With APRIL FOOL’S DAY, Mancuso and director Fred Walton (WHEN A STRANGER CALLS) satirize slasher tropes in a clever, comedic spin on the genre. Rich girl Muffy (Deborah Foreman of VALLEY GIRL fame) invites a group of friends to her island mansion for a weekend getaway during April Fool’s Day. After the party is underway, the guests encounter a series of increasingly bizarre and seemingly dangerous pranks. Things take a dark turn when the pranks turn deadly, leading the guests to question if they are still part of an elaborate joke or if something more ominous is at play. Twists and turns abound as the group must unravel the mystery before it’s too late. Do not miss this extremely rare opportunity to see APRIL FOOL’S DAY projected in 35mm!

CARRIE

BRIAN DE PALMA | USA | 1976 | 89 MIN | 35MM

Brian De Palma’s iconic adaptation of the Stephen King bestseller has stood the test of time as one of horror’s superior shockers. Sissy Spacek delivers a haunting, Oscar-nominated performance as Carrie White, a shy and tormented high school outcast who must contend with the oppressive religious zealotry of her mother (Piper Laurie). Carrie’s life takes a nightmarish turn when bullying by her classmates unleashes the girl’s latent telekinetic powers. After a cruel prank at prom pushes Carrie to the brink, she unleashes a supernatural vengeance that even she may not be able to control. De Palma masterfully blends horror and tragedy in this tale of a girl pushed to the edge, resulting in a devastating and unforgettable climax.

PROM NIGHT

PAUL LYNCH | USA | 1980 | 92 MIN | 35MM

The slasher classic PROM NIGHT stars everyone’s favorite “Final Girl” Jamie Lee Curtis (HALLOWEEN, TERROR TRAIN) in a twisted tale of vengeance and violence. Years after a tragic childhood incident, a group of high school friends suffer through the worst prom night of their lives: a mysterious and vengeful figure has targeted the group, seeking retribution for a dark secret they all share. Curtis portrays Kim Hammond, whose past is intricately linked to the unfolding horror. As the night progresses, the dream dance descends into a nightmarish fight for survival! Co-starring AIRPLANE! and NAKED GUN favorite Leslie Nielsen in a rare late-career serious role, PROM NIGHT is a goofy, gory good time.

SLAUGHTER HIGH

GEORGE DUGDALE | USA/UK | 1986 | 90 MIN | 35MM

SLAUGHTER HIGH is an underseen ’80s slasher that blends dark humor with intense gore. Originally filmed in the UK as APRIL FOOL’S DAY, SLAUGHTER HIGH was forced to change its title to avoid confusion with the Paramount film of the same name, as both movies were released in 1986. In SLAUGHTER HIGH, former high school classmates receive mysterious invitations to a reunion at their abandoned alma mater. Once inside, they discover the gathering is a sadistic trap set by Marty Rantzen, a bullied student seeking revenge for a cruel prank gone awry years earlier. Marty subjects his unsuspecting victims to a nightmarish game of torture and terror. As the classmates desperately try to escape the dilapidated school, they face gruesome and inventive methods of demise. Featuring genre favorite Caroline Monroe (MANIAC, STARCRASH) alongside a cast of mostly British unknowns with questionable American accents!
