La Dolce Vita
April 17 @ 7:00 pm - 10:10 pm
1960 – 2 hr 54 min
Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg star in one of Fellini’s most beloved films. Marcello, a gossip writer, finds himself caught up in the fleeting excesses and decadence of contemporary life. Torn between the allure of Rome’s elite social scene and the stifling domesticity offered by his girlfriend, he searches for a way to become a serious writer. LA DOLCE VITA is Fellini’s rumination on the seductive lifestyles of Rome’s rich and glamorous. In Italian w/ subtitles.
About the Fashion: Fellini’s LA DOLCE VITA is one of the most stylish films of all time and found inspiration in the sack dress created by the Spanish fashion house of Balenciaga. The ‘sack dress’ was controversial for being so radically different from the very constricting hour-glass shape that had influenced every aspect of fashion at that time. Possessing a new type of freedom and fashion that women and men would embrace. Marcello Mastroianni’s short suit coat, thin lapels, ties, and iconic Persol sunglasses would become a fashion staple for men throughout the ‘60s.
