Farewell, Mr. Haffmann
May 5 @ 12:30 pm - 2:40 pm
2021 – 1 hr 55 min
We have partnered with our friends at Congregation Beth Or for a special screening of the 2023 French drama FAREWELL MR. HAFFMAN. Senior Rabbi Gregory S. Marx will introduce the film and host a post viewing Q&A inside the theater after the show. This screening is FREE for members.
In this acclaimed and engrossing drama set in 1941 Paris, iconic French actor Daniel Auteuil stars as Joseph Haffmann, a Jewish Jeweler who arranges for his family to flee the city during Nazi Occupation. He offers his assistant the chance to take over his store and apartment until the conflict subsides. But when his own attempts to join his family in the safe zone are thwarted, he is forced to rely on his assistant’s protection. Based on the Molière Award-winning play by Jean-Philippe Faguerre, HAFFMAN is full of masterfully complex performances and unexpected twists. Presented in French with English subtitles.
This screening is underwritten by Congregation Beth Or.
Rabbi Marx has been spiritual leader at Congregation Beth Or since 1989. Committed to Jewish and interfaith education, he is the past President of the Wissahickon Faith Community Association, an interfaith organization supporting clergy from various faiths. Rabbi Marx, also the past President of the Philadelphia Board of Rabbis has published in several journals, periodicals and papers. Ordained at Hebrew Union College in 1984, and holding a BA from Oberlin College and an M.H.L. and D.D. from Hebrew Union College, he teaches extensively and has worked to instill pride in Jewish traditions for over 40 of Rabbinic service and leadership.
