ABOUT
— Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
Long before Game of Thrones’s Battle of Winterfell, there was the Battle of Helm’s Deep. The climactic conflict is this trilogy’s centerpiece clash, an amazing combination of traditional and innovative filmmaking techniques. It’s also the longest battle sequence in film history. This extended edition of Peter Jackson’s second Lord of the Rings film boasts 45 minutes of expanded and new scenes. The film earned Academy Awards for Visual Effects and Sound Editing.
The quest continues. Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) are followed by the mysterious Gollum (Andy Serkis). Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) encounter the besieged Rohan kingdom, whose once great King Theoden (Bernard Hill) struggles under a spell cast by Saruman (Christopher Lee). Gollum resolves to reclaim the One Ring for himself.
